This novel is the English translation of “Lo nuestro no es raro” and constitutes my first attempt at internationalizing my work. I was personally involved in the translation, locking myself in a house in Key West, Florida, with my friend and American translator, Eileen Kelly, until we achieved the desired result: a novel with my soul and her English.
Where’s the limit between intimacy and love?
In life there is always a person who teaches us to love. A story that completely changes who we are. This novel talks about that person, that story, and the different ways of loving.
André lives in his comfort zone until he meets the elegant Michele from San Francisco, twenty-five years his senior. Their difficult yet tender story begins the day she visits the prestigious vineyard in Alsace where he works and develops through a series of trips around the world. Eventually, he’ll find himself alone in New York with two men to confront and one mission to fulfill.
In the Big Apple, André will face his greatest fears and finally open his heart to something he had denied. Only when he manages to love and accept himself will he understand that it wasn’t so strange after all.
A love story as rare as any. Or none.
